A murder in wartime Nassau. A fingerprint that seemed decisive. A case the evidence could never close.

In July 1943, Sir Harry Oakes was killed at Westbourne, his Nassau residence. Within days, suspicion had narrowed toward his son-in-law, Alfred de Marigny. Investigators believed they possessed something stronger than family conflict or circumstantial suspicion: a fingerprint said to have been lifted from a folding screen near Oakes's bed. But identifying whose fingerprint it was and proving where it had actually been found would become two very different questions.
