Clara was twenty-one when she disappeared during the night of September 9 to 10, 1926. Her body was later found near Battle Ridge in the Rising Sun area. Contemporary reporting identified Erdman S. Olson, her boyfriend and the principal accused suspect, through murder-warrant reporting and a coroner's inquest account. But the surviving record leaves a crucial absence: in the available materials reviewed for this narrative, he was never brought to trial.
