What Muhammad, Ahmad, and Hasan ibn Musa ibn Shakir do with that access will echo across twelve centuries.
Muhammad, the eldest, builds systems - organizing the vast inherited knowledge of Greece, Persia, and India into frameworks that will survive the empires that produced them. Ahmad, the middle brother, builds things - machines that lift water, regulate their own pressure, and sing like birds, including the first documented feedback control valve in human history, ancestor of every governor, regulator, and automated system in the modern world. Hasan, the youngest, builds proofs - extending the geometry of Apollonius in ways that European mathematicians will not independently reach for another six hundred years.
Together they measure the circumference of the Earth. They map the caliphate. They write the Kitab al-Hiyal - the Book of Ingenious Devices - that al-Jazari will call the foundation of his own work, that Latin translators will carry into medieval Europe, that engineers will still cite in the Renaissance.
And they do all of this while navigating an empire in perpetual political crisis: caliphs who change with violent speed, theological wars that put rationalist scholarship in the line of fire, rivals who whisper in court corridors, and a decade of anarchy in which four rulers are murdered in succession.
The Sons of Musa is the story of three brothers who loved their work more than they loved safety, who trusted each other more than they trusted the institutions that sustained them, and who built - across half a century of astonishing productivity - a body of knowledge that the world did not know it was waiting for.
This is not a book about the distant past. It is a book about what human minds can do when they are given access to everything their predecessors have learned, the freedom to extend it, and the wisdom to work together rather than alone.
The machines they imagined still run. The theorems they proved still hold. The hunger that drove them is the hunger in every person who has ever refused to leave a hard problem alone.
