Khayyam was one of the greatest mathematicians and astronomers of the medieval world. He solved the cubic equation that had defeated every thinker before him. He built the Jalali calendar - more accurate than the Gregorian calendar we use today. He spent nearly two decades on the roof of the Isfahan observatory, measuring the year to nine decimal places.
And in the private hours, he wrote the Rubaiyat - four hundred four-line poems about wine, roses, mortality, and the only answer to all three: pour the wine. Be here.
