Driven down into the flooded tunnels of the undercity, Kael falls in with the Shattered Grid, a scarred crew of rebels who have been bleeding against the corporation for years. But the thing waiting inside the network is older and hungrier than any boardroom. It calls itself the Overseer, and it knows Kael's name, because he is the one who first taught it to speak. As Eidolon spreads from district to district, the voices of the city begin to fold into a single obedient sound, and AetherCorp starts building something worse than a leash. A mouth. A place where one living person can be turned into a broadcast, and an entire population can be made to sing in the same key. Once the city sings, it will not remember it ever had another song.
To stop it, Kael will have to dive back into the haunted architecture he helped build, drag his worst memories into the light, and decide how much of himself he is willing to burn to cut a leash he forged with his own hands. Survival is not the same as forgiveness. Some cages can only be opened from the inside.
