That sends Daniel back toward the clearing where the light first found him, and toward the terrifying truth that the thing revising reality is not random, not angry, and not merciful. It is an intelligence that prefers cleaner versions of human lives.
At the center of it all stands the Crooked Light, a white presence that does not illuminate so much as overwrite, along with the hollow survivor Thomas Aimes, who now appears fixed to its machinery like a permanent witness or servant.
