Between 1975 and 2006, the mortality rates from childhood cancer decreased by more than 50%. Leukemia and lymphoma death rates were dramatically declining over the 32-year period, albeit the rate of decline slowed after 1998. From 1975 to 1996, there was a considerable decline in the mortality rates for the remaining children malignancies, and rates remained steady from 1996 to 2006. All types of juvenile malignancies under study showed an improvement in survival rates, albeit the size and timing of the gains varied by diagnosis.
