On December 23, 1974, Mary Rachel Trlica, seventeen, Lisa Renee Wilson, fourteen, and Julie Ann Moseley, nine, left for a holiday errand in Fort Worth, Texas. By evening, Rachel's Oldsmobile had been found at Seminary South Shopping Center with purchases inside. The three girls were gone.
The next day, a handwritten letter addressed to Rachel's husband claimed they had gone to Houston and would return in about a week. They never did. The letter's authorship has never been established, its handwriting has remained disputed, and no verified trail placed the girls in Houston. No bodies have been recovered, no cause or manner of death officially determined, and no one has been publicly charged in connection with the disappearance.
The Car at Seminary South reconstructs this unresolved missing-person case from the surviving public record. It begins with Rachel, Renee, and Julie as individuals before following the invitation, layaway stop, shopping trip, upper parking lot, abandoned car, and message that redirected the first days of the search.
The investigation then widens through early runaway assumptions, family searches, private investigator Jon Swaim's work, files reportedly destroyed after his death, remains that proved unrelated, vehicles examined without a public connection, and continuing questions about the envelope, stamp, and possible forensic testing. Each lead is measured by what it can establish-not by how dramatic it sounds.
The book also examines the theories that have grown around men, vehicles, family conflict, and the disputed letter. Reported accounts remain reported. Allegations remain allegations. Uncharged people are not turned into offenders, and uncertainty is not treated as proof. The central question is not which theory feels most satisfying, but where the reliable record ends.
