Teuk Gong Moo Sool Hapkido: The Evolution Of Korea's Special Operations Martial Art

From the battlefield traditions of feudal Japan to the modern development of Korean special operations martial arts, this book explores the deep and often misunderstood lineage behind Hapkido and its most advanced tactical expressions. It begins with the classical Japanese systems and the emergence of Daito-Ryu Aiki-Jujutsu under Takeda Sokaku, tracing the transmission of combative principles that would later influence Korean martial development through Choi Yong Sool's return from Japan.

The narrative follows the rise of Hapkido and the pioneering masters who shaped its identity, expanding it from a personal fighting method into a structured and evolving martial art. It examines how these early innovators adapted traditional techniques into a uniquely Korean system, and how Hapkido became intertwined with military application, including its adoption and refinement within Korean special operations forces.

From the demands of Vietnam-era combat to the creation of specialized military combatives such as Teuk Gong Moo Sool, the book shows how real-world operational needs continued to shape the art's evolution. It also explores the mindset, structure, and philosophy required for modern combatives, preserving the warrior tradition while revealing how these systems continue to evolve under the pressures of contemporary warfare and global security requirements.
