It's one thing to receive a thing and a completely different ball game to retain what you received. Also, to attain an enviable height in life: in your career, profession, or calling, and to retain such a feat as well as to sustain your stay on such a lofty height are different things entirely.

In the same vein, continuing what you started and completing what you began is of more importance than their beginnings. That's exactly what the Ancient Universal Book of Wisdom teaches when it says: Better is the end of a matter than the beginning thereof. The end of a matter is always better than the beginning but consistency is needed to arrive at that better end. Without constancy, one will be stalked halfway in the journey to that better end. That's why those who stop their acts halfway can't extract the best out of their work and life in general, let alone their spiritual work and walk. Consistency, therefore, is what takes one to the better end of any venture.

Your decision to continue to do what you set your heart and hand to do is more important than the decision that kick-started such an engagement in the first place. This principle is much more applicable to our spirituality than anything else because it is not enough to have started the spiritual work and walk; you must strive to remain spiritual, always.

As a result of the sad experiences of not a few people, all over the world, the need for consistency in spirituality can't be trivialized - so many people who were very spiritual some decades ago, a year ago, or months ago are no more spiritual today! This is due to their inconsistency in their spiritual walk and spiritual matters, as a whole. A lot of them had lost their spiritual fervor completely with their spiritual color fast fading like that of a worn-out garment. They started on the spiritual journey quite right but didn't maintain the tempo. They slacked along the way.

To begin in the Spirit and not continue in the Spirit but end in the flesh is a display of spiritual inconsistency. When this happens, you begin to have a 'former spiritual man' or 'former spiritual woman.' Some have even become 'former anointed men' and 'former anointed women of God, ' and other such funny things.

God is a consistent Spirit; a consistent God. He loathes inconsistency of the spirit, in all its varying manifestations. His aversion to inconsistency in spirituality is such that He parts ways with those who are spiritually inconsistent and unstable.
