Behavioral Engineering introduces a practical interdisciplinary approach to understanding and designing the conditions that make human behavior more or less likely. Drawing from behavioral psychology, learning theory, cognitive science, behavioral economics, human performance, systems thinking, design, technology, and artificial intelligence, this book explores behavior as the observable result of interacting conditions rather than as an isolated expression of personality or intention.
Behavioral Engineering does not mean controlling people. It means examining the architecture surrounding behavior: the signals people receive, the choices available to them, the effort required, the information they can access, the consequences they experience, the habits they have learned, the social context they inhabit, and the systems that reinforce or discourage action.

The central principle is simple but consequential:
You do not always need to change the person. Sometimes you need to change the conditions surrounding the behavior.
But greater power to influence behavior also creates greater responsibility. Effective systems must be evaluated not only by engagement, adoption, productivity, or performance, but also by transparency, proportionality, reversibility, privacy, autonomy, and human dignity.
Behavior can be influenced, but it cannot be reduced to a mechanical formula. People adapt, interpret, resist, learn, and change.
We are already engineering behavior. The question are we doing it consciously?.
