This book is part memoir, part survivor's guide. It's through the eyes of a boy growing up with domestic violence. As that boy became an adult, he wanted to document and share the events with the public to increase awareness. But decades passed, and when he finally had the time to answer his calling to write the entire story, it turned out to be much more. Those subsequent years revealed the unsuspecting nature and true damage caused by his early childhood experiences. It wasn't only mom who was a victim, but himself as well - with unforeseen, lasting consequences and effects contributing to unhappiness, negative thoughts and behaviors, and broken relationships.
This is a heart-felt, eye-opening, brutally honest and personal work, sharing much insight and advice on domestic violence and related, timely issues - the immigrant experience, first generation American struggles, parenting, financial concerns, emotional and physical health; worry, stress and anxiety; loneliness, despair, desperation, hopelessness, depression; addiction, anger, violence, suicide...
But most importantly, this volume offers hope and faith, along with reflection and guidance to help people dealing with these issues - to promote understanding, to make sense of their lives, to take responsibility for themselves, family, and neighbors - to ultimately break the cycle and destructiveness of domestic violence, in order to heal, recover, and move forward.
