I was born and raised in St. Augustine, FL where I lived with my parents and seven older sisters. At the age of 24, I was involved in a terrible car accident with my friend George. In the near fatal accident we both sustained life threatening injuries. I sustained a spinal cord injury. I was paralyzed from my neck down. My parents were strongly advised to place me into a nursing home because I would need to use life support machines for the rest of my life.
