The methodological approach involved first assessing the suitability of the treatment plant's effluent for irrigation by analysing water quality data, and then determining the impacts of reuse through surveys and interviews. Analysis of effluent quality data from the Kossodo Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and the main connected industries revealed that the treated effluent (60% of industrial origin) was unsuitable for agricultural use in accordance with discharge and irrigation reuse standards: pH>10; COD/BOD5 > 8; TSS > 100; SAR > 10, have led to a loss of soil infiltration (compaction). Surveys of market gardeners on the site have revealed a decline in yields and thus in soil productivity over the last few years, in contrast to the early days of the activity. This is because 80% of respondents claim that the soil has been less productive in recent years due to poor harvests. 70% of female producers blame the quality of the water, which has varied considerably over the past two years. Faced with this situation, several market gardeners have abandoned their plots.
