A spinal cord injury can be caused by any lesion to the spinal cord or the nerves at the end of the spinal canal. These injuries often leave long-term changes in strength, sensation, and other body functions below the site of the injury.

Thanks to therapy and rehabilitation, many people with spinal cord injuries are able to lead independent, productive lives in the interim.
Signs and symptoms
How well you are able to control your limbs after a spinal cord injury depends on the location and severity of the injury along your spinal cord.
The lowest part of your spinal cord that remains functional after an injury is known as the neurological level of impairment. The term the completeness refers to the extent of damage, which can be divided into two categories:
