The degradation of savanna ecosystems in Burkina Faso is jeopardizing the natural regeneration of local tree species, which provide ecosystem services. This study analyzed the structural dynamics of vegetation according to land-use types (gallery forest, fallow land, and fields), as well as the effect of organic fertilizers on the germination, growth, and survival of five slow-growing local tree species (Adansonia digitata, Parkia biglobosa, Diospyros mespiliformis, Prosopis africana, and Balanites aegyptiaca). Two activities were conducted at the Saria research station: a targeted inventory of woody species across three land-use types and a germination trial in a nursery using a randomized Fisher block design comprising six treatments: control, cattle manure, compost, poultry manure, cattle manure + compost, and poultry manure + cattle manure.
