A Shelter to Survive is a practical wilderness shelter guide built around one purpose: helping a person stay alive when weather, darkness, injury, or isolation leaves them exposed.
It begins with the basic rules that make every shelter work-choosing safe ground, staying out of wind and runoff, insulating from the cold earth, securing a roof, controlling heat and smoke, and repairing weaknesses before dark. It then shows how to build and use a wide range of shelters from what may be available: tarps, ponchos, emergency blankets, tents, brush, debris, boughs, fallen trees, snow, rock, boats, and earth.
Each shelter is presented with a facing illustration and clear instructions explaining how its frame carries weight, how it is anchored, how covering should shed rain, and how to make a dry sleeping space inside. The book also covers high-wind setups, drainage, natural cordage, ridge-line knots, windbreaks, emergency storm protection, heating stoves, underground shelter concepts, and quick-reference survival rules.
The central message is simple: a shelter does not have to be comfortable or impressive. It has to keep you dry, block the wind, hold your body heat, and get you safely through the night.
