THE LIFE SPAN OF MAN IS HIGHER THAN SEVENTY. SEVENTY IS NOT THE MEASURE. SEVENTY IS THE POINTER - SET IN THE ROAD FOR THE FURTHERMENT OF THE FURTHERANCE OF LIFE.
The days of our years are threescore years and ten (Psalm 90:10). This is quoted as a divine ordinance. It is nothing of the sort. It is Moses' field report from a funeral march, written in a wilderness where an entire generation was under a decree of death - and written by a man who himself reached one hundred and twenty with his eye undimmed (Deuteronomy 34:7). The author of the seventy outlived the seventy by half a century. Psalm 90 is a lament with a legal appeal attached: read verse 7 and verse 9 before you quote verse 10, and read verse 12 after it - teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. The verse is not a sentence. It is a request for instruction in reckoning.
Now observe what seventy actually does in Scripture. It never terminates. It always points.
Seventy souls went down into Egypt (Genesis 46:27) - and a nation came out.Seventy elders went up the mountain with Moses (Exodus 24:1, 9) - and they saw God, and did eat and drink.
Seventy palm trees stood at Elim (Exodus 15:27) - a waypoint, not a destination.
Seventy years of captivity were decreed (Jeremiah 25:11) - and then: After seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you... For I know the thoughts that I think toward you... to give you an expected end (Jeremiah 29:10-11).
Seventy weeks were determined upon the people (Daniel 9:24) - to finish the transgression and bring in everlasting righteousness.
Seventy were sent out ahead of the Lord (Luke 10:1) - sentbefore his face into every city whither he himself would come. The seventy were the advance party. They arrived first precisely so that Someone greater could arrive after them.
That is the whole doctrine of the number in one line: seventy always has an and then attached to it. It is the number of the advance party, the waypoint, the accomplished term after which the good word is performed. Every seventy in the Bible is followed by an increase. Not one of them is followed by a full stop.
Then observe the arithmetic, which no lamenter could have computed. Seven does not divide 25,920 at all - the number factors as 2⁶ × 3⁴ × 5. Seventy is therefore not a sliceof the Great Year; it cannot be. But the count of the whole divisors of 25,920 is exactly seventy. The threescore-and-ten sits inside the Great Year not as a duration but as the number of lawful ways the Great Year opens.
Seventy is not your life. Seventy is the number of doors in the house - and a door is the most forward-pointing object ever built. Nobody was ever buried in a doorway.
Chapter 5: The Breath Confirms the Circuit
The human being at rest breathes approximately eighteen times in a minute.

The man carries the Great Year in his lungs. Every twenty-four hours, the body completes in breath what the heavens complete in twenty-six millennia. This is the as above, so below of Scripture - in heaven, so in earth (Matthew 6:10) - not as mysticism but as specification.
And the heart keeps the degree: seventy-two beats to the minute, seventy-two years to the degree. The pulse of a man is the precession of a sky, scaled.
