Presidential Address the Plants of Canada Past and Present is a significant botanical and historical survey delivered by the distinguished scientist A.H.R. Buller. Originally presented as a presidential address to the Royal Society of Canada, this work provides a comprehensive overview of the diverse flora found across the Canadian landscape, examining both contemporary plant life and the geological history of vegetation in the region.
Buller, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, brings his extensive expertise to bear on the evolution of Canada's botanical heritage. The text explores the distribution of species, the impact of glacial periods on plant survival and migration, and the unique characteristics of Canadian ecosystems. By bridging the gap between paleobotany and modern botanical science, the address offers valuable insights into how the natural environment of North America has shifted over millennia.
This work serves as an essential resource for those interested in the natural history of Canada, the development of botanical studies in the early twentieth century, and the ecological forces that have shaped the northern landscape. It remains a testament to the rigorous scientific inquiry and descriptive precision characteristic of Buller's contributions to the field of biology.
