Bloom where you are planted. Indian-origin plants adapt to local soils and monsoons, tolerate adverse environmental conditions, and serve as living examples of thriving in their natural environment. As a botany researcher, I began to see how disconnected society was from ecological reality. We are all part of nature, and by understanding our importance and purpose, we can help create a sustainable world where all life can flourish.Early botanists often relied on dried herbarium specimens or garden samples with incomplete collection data, leading to errors in identifying a plant's origin. For example, the true Saraca indica did not originate in India; the native Indian tree is Saraca asoca. This confusion resulted from a historical misidentification by Swedish taxonomist Carl Linnaeus. In other cases, taxonomists named plants after botanists who studied them rather than their country of origin. This book explores this history and explains the reasons behind these botanical naming errors.
