A thoughtfully constructed guide to leaving a legacy. - Kirkus Reviews
Author Richard O. Weijo, PhD, sees the seventy-six million baby boomers in America and almost ten million in Canada as one sleeping giant, waiting to be awakened to the power of legacy. His book Our Dreams for Our Children: Creating Legacies That Inspire Each New Generation to Achieve a Brighter Future is a call to action.
In Our Dreams for Our Children, Weijo takes an expansive look at what legacy entails and provides a detailed guide to planning and implementing a legacy that will enrich the lives of future generations, stressing why it is important for baby boomers to take responsibility now for the legacy that they want to leave behind after they are gone.
The inspiring story of how President Barack Obama benefited from understanding his family legacy exemplifies the power of legacy. Other examples are traditional cultures in which elders play an important role in preserving knowledge, traditions, art, and history, and passing this cultural heritage on to future generations.
Providing diagrams, worksheets, personal anecdotes, and additional resources, Weijo guides readers through a logical process that begins with deciding on the scope of their legacy and moves through steps that include looking through the lenses of the past, present, and future, discovering themes, identifying the recipients, selecting which gifts to share, and building an action plan.
Perhaps most importantly, Our Dreams for Our Children will show you how to communicate and reinforce your story in a way that it will be remembered and cherished by younger generations.
As George Santayana said, Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. The power of your legacy lies in your ability to affect the future by ensuring that the wisdom you have gained by your unique experience and through your family's heritage will serve as meaningful guideposts down the road. It's a gift well worth passing on, and now is the time to think about how you can help create a promising future for many generations to come.
