Brazilian goat farming has been showing signs of progress in terms of production performance, but much remains to be improved, especially with regard to the organisation and management of the production chain. The activity has been attracting greater interest from government officials, technicians and producers and has led to changes in some of its segments, such as the intensification of research into rational animal husbandry and the processing of goat products; increased organisation among producers; greater appropriation and use of knowledge and technologies; and greater involvement of financial agents in facilitating access to credit. Another important aspect of the activity concerns the increased demand for goat products in the domestic and foreign markets, particularly in the meat and milk segments. It is understood that, in the medium and long term, the activity will become one of the options for Brazilian agribusiness and, thus, contribute to the generation of employment and income, positively impacting the economic and social areas. The objective of this study was to understand and evaluate the productive performance of goats of the Canindé breed.
