Now, beloved, the manuscript hath run its course. Thou hast walked with me from the upper room of Iscariot's bargain unto the field of his blood; thou hast seen the hundred and fifty-three scriptures arrayed against betrayal; thou hast weighed the hundred and fifty-three reasons; thou hast read the hundred and fifty-three trilingual witnesses. The witness of Heaven hath been laid before thee in three languages and from every quarter of the Word. Now what shall I say in closing?
This. Be thou faithful. Be thou faithful in the small thing, and the great betrayal shall never overtake thee. Be thou faithful when no eye seeth thee but the eye of the Father, and the silver shall never glitter brightly enough to turn thy head. Be thou faithful when admonished, and pride shall not herd thee into the night. Be thou faithful with the bag, and thou shalt never need to seek a kiss to settle thine accounts.
And remember, O reader, that the Lord Jesus Christ is alive, even He that liveth and was dead and is alive for evermore, who hath the keys of hell and of death. The replication of His essence and His power, the manifestation of the sons of God whereof the foreword spake, is the very purpose for which thou hast been preserved unto this hour. Betray it not. Betray Him not. Betray thy brother not. Betray thine own calling not.
If thou hast been betrayed - and there be many readers who have - the Father seeth and remembereth. The recompenser is on His throne. Wait thou upon the Lord, and let not thine own hand take that vengeance which belongeth unto Him only. The field of blood shall yet be marked with His finger; the silver shall yet be weighed in His scale; the kiss shall yet be answered from His throne. Wait.
And if thou hast been a betrayer - let no man read this book without examining his own soul - there is yet a moment of grace. The Lord stretched forth the sop unto Iscariot in the last hour, and there is a sop for thee. Eat it. Turn. Turn while there is yet day. Confess; restore; weep; and let the Father, who runneth toward every prodigal, run toward thee. The rope is not thy portion; the cross is. Stand under the cross, not under the cedar of Akeldama.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God the Father, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with thee and with all who read this volume in the one hundred and fifty-six nations of its distribution. Amen and Amen.
