How to Use This Book
This book is built like a gym, not a lecture hall. Each chapter opens with a scenario you will recognize, translates the relevant science into plain language, hands you a toolkit of specific techniques, works through an example, and closes with a debrief and one action for the week.

Read Part I first - it gives you the framework and a self-assessment that identifies your weakest of four pillars. After that, you have two routes. The disciplined route: read straight through, building each capacity in sequence. The triage route: jump to the part that addresses your weakest pillar, because that is where your next promotion is currently stuck. Either way, do the exercises. Reading about the equipment has never made anyone stronger.

A note on the people in these pages: every character and scenario is a composite, created to illustrate patterns rather than to depict real individuals. The psychology, however, is real - and so are the tools.
