How much did your mother carry before you finally saw the weight?
Before she became a mother of eight, she was a young girl in a Lebanese mountain village-milking cows before sunrise, feeding chickens, gathering eggs, and helping her family survive inside a one-room stone house.
At fourteen, she left the village with the young man she loved. Together, they began married life in a shack near a Beirut junkyard. From almost nothing, they built a home, a family, and eventually a five-story building.
Then war transformed their neighborhood into a battlefield.
While shells fell and snipers watched the roads, she searched for food, carried firewood, baked bread, and protected her children. Plastic grocery-bag handles cut into her fingers until they bled, but she never released them. Eight children were waiting at home.
When peace finally arrived, it brought another kind of loss. One by one, her children left for America. Years later, they gave her safety and comfort-but could not replace her language, friendships, open door, or sense of belonging.
Only after her death did her son understand the true weight of everything she had carried.
I Feel Your Pain Now is a deeply personal memoir about a mother's invisible sacrifices, a family divided by war and immigration, and the regret of recognizing love too late.
