Drip irrigation is an essential technology for the sustainable production of carrots (Daucus carota L.) in water-scarce regions, such as the Cariri region of Ceará. This review addresses the fundamentals and management of this system, highlighting agronomic aspects of the crop, evapotranspiration-based irrigation, fertigation, water quality, and the water requirements of carrots. It also emphasizes the importance of efficient water use, precision agriculture, and soil and climate monitoring to increase production efficiency and reduce environmental impacts. It is concluded that drip irrigation, when properly sized and managed, improves water use efficiency, increases productivity, enhances the commercial quality of the roots, and contributes to the sustainability of irrigated agriculture in the Brazilian Semi-Arid region.
