I was a teacher. An athlete. A soldier preparing for my first deployment. Then, in an instant, everything changed.
A concussion left me struggling to think, to function, to recognize the life I once had. Doctors had few answers-some had none at all. I was told I might never get better.
What followed was more than a fight to recover. It became a journey through a system unprepared to understand or treat concussion as a long-term injury-one capable of causing persistent, even permanent disability. I experienced a wide range of symptoms I'd never heard associated with concussion. I was forced to search for answers myself.
In that search, I uncovered a troubling reality: gaps in research, limitations in treatment, and the quiet influence of contact sport on what we're told-and what we're not, leaving many sufferers lost and without hope.
Through relentless research, setbacks, and small victories, I found people who could help-and a path forward. This book brings together my story and the voices of others navigating the same invisible struggle, along with the information I wish I'd had from the beginning.
For anyone living with a concussion, this is a story of validation, resilience, and a guide to avenues you may not yet have been shown. For anyone else, it's a dive into the truth about concussion you don't hear about.
