Agriculture here in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo faces several challenges, notably soil depletion and leaching caused by erosion, as well as monotonous farming practices without rotation or fallow periods, due to the scarcity of arable land for two reasons: large tracts of land-often left uncultivated-are owned by a minority of individuals, typically wealthy landowners, thereby depriving the majority of the poor population and forcing them to cultivate very small plots-merely for subsistence farming and survival-on the same land year after year. The other reason is a lack of knowledge and mastery of extensive farming; that is, farming practiced on a small area to yield a higher return through appropriate agricultural techniques, rather than on large areas using crude and inappropriate methods. It is with the aim of contributing to the resolution of this problem that this study was undertaken by utilizing a small area and focusing on a profitable crop through improved and purely natural agricultural techniques.
