This environmental study shows that the rapid increase in charcoal consumption by households in the city of Bukavu, in the Ibanda commune, is harming the local environment and causing a wide range of associated problems. The study was based on the following questions: Does the consumption of charcoal by households in the city of Bukavu, in the Ibanda commune, influence the rate of deforestation at supply sites?; Is population growth in the city of Bukavu a factor influencing household demand for charcoal at points of sale?; Could the lack of knowledge among the stakeholders involved (producers, transporters, sellers, users, and specialized service agents) regarding the causes, consequences, and harmful effects of deforestation be one of the causes of irrational exploitation? In light of these questions, we formulated the following hypotheses, which led us to confirm our hypotheses.
