fter a heart transplant, people expect change.
They expect fatigue, medication side effects, gratitude, fear, relief. What they don't expect are the smaller shifts. The ones no one warns them about. The ones that don't show up on lab reports or discharge instructions.
A sudden craving for food they hated their entire life.
Habits that appear fully formed, without effort or intention.
Emotional changes noticed by family before the recipient ever feels them.
A quiet pull toward certain places, routines, or ways of being.
Borrowed Cravings is a collection of real stories from heart transplant recipients describing the changes they noticed after surgery, told in their own voices. These are not medical case studies and not attempts to prove anything. They are lived experiences, shared carefully, often hesitantly, and without conclusions.
Some recipients connect these changes to what they later learn about their donor. Others reject that idea entirely. Many sit somewhere in between. This book makes room for all of it.
Organized by theme, food, music, habits, skills, emotional shifts, place, silence, skepticism, and integration, each chapter gathers multiple perspectives and allows patterns to emerge naturally, without explanation or judgment.
This book is for transplant recipients who have noticed something they can't quite explain.
For caregivers and family members who have quietly observed change.
For clinicians and readers who understand that not every meaningful experience fits neatly inside a diagnosis.
Borrowed Cravings doesn't ask you to believe anything.
It asks you to listen.
And sometimes, that's enough.
