You Are GOD: Theology is the first volume of Hugo Noël Santander Ferreira's Global Metaphysics, a philosophical project devoted to the fundamental questions of human existence from a contemporary and universal perspective. Its central proposition draws upon one of the oldest concepts shared by philosophy and religious thought: God as the Supreme Good. From this premise, theology becomes an inquiry into the possibility of embodying goodness in human conduct.
The book examines the great religious traditions-Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism-in search of an ethical ground capable of sustaining peaceful coexistence. Compassion, respect for life, forgiveness, goodwill and harmony emerge as principles through which religious beliefs acquire their highest human significance. These foundations lead to the formulation of three universal religious laws that place the protection of human beings, living creatures and nature at the centre of religious ethics.
The inquiry subsequently extends to atheism. Santander Ferreira approaches religious and secular thought through their shared capacity for wisdom and ethical action, establishing goodness as a meeting point between believers and non-believers. The theology of mourning and the examination of immortality then explore love, memory, death and the courage required to live according to conscience.
A substantial part of the volume develops a political theology grounded in the same principle. Political systems invoke justice, freedom, equality and the common good; their ethical character is therefore revealed through the relationship between their declared purposes, their methods and their consequences. Through figures including Thomas More, Tommaso Campanella, Francisco Suárez, Giordano Bruno, Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, Husserl, KosÃk, Sábato, Habermas and Juan Luis Vives, the book traces the enduring relationship between metaphysics, ethics and political power.
This perspective also guides its analysis of socialism, neocolonialism, ideological polarisation, censorship, political correctness, contemporary leadership, dialectics and rhetoric. Truth becomes an ethical dimension of language, while political responsibility is measured by the capacity to transform intentions into actions directed towards the Good.
The final movement advances towards universal citizenship. Ethical responsibility transcends nationality, ideology, religion, class and political affiliation, allowing humanity itself to become the broadest community of moral belonging.
You Are GOD thus presents theology as an active philosophical discipline concerned with the realisation of goodness in everyday existence. To become God, in the sense developed throughout the work, means to assume the Good as the governing principle of action and to preserve it through courage, compassion, truth, freedom and responsibility.
The volume is followed by You Are the Universe: Metaphysics, You Are Immortal: Ontology and the auto de fe The Symposium of Arcadia.
