Hầu hết chúng ta không mấy ai hà i lòng với những gì mà số phận mang đến. Chúng ta luôn nỗ lực để cải thiện, để vươn lên tốt hơn. Đó là một khuynh hướng rất đáng trân trọng, vì nó tạo thà nh động lực của đời sống và giúp cho cuộc đời ta trở nên có ý nghĩa hơn. Khi số phận đặt ta và o những vị trà thua kém người khác, ta thường không chấp nhận điều đó và tìm mọi cách để thay đổi. Tất nhiên, sự thay đổi đó có thực hiện được hay không còn tùy thuộc và o năng lực và ý chà của mỗi chúng ta cũng như hoà n cảnh quanh ta, nhưng bất kể là kết quả có như thế nà o đi chăng nữa, tự thân những nỗ lực thay đổi đó vẫn luôn mang lại cho ta niềm tin và o cuộc sống.
Bất ổn thường gặp của đa số chúng ta là khi so sánh với người khác, ta thường không thấy mình may mắn hơn, mà luôn nhìn thấy nổi bật lên những sự không may của mình. Khi ta sinh ra trong một gia đình già u có, ta so sánh với người khác và thấy mình thiếu thốn tình cảm... Khi ta có được tình cảm tốt đẹp từ mọi người thân trong gia đình, ta thấy mình bất hạnh vì không có sức khỏe tốt... Và khi có được một sức khỏe thật tốt, ta cũng không mấy khi biết trân trọng sự may mắn nà y, mà chỉ luôn cảm thấy phiền lòng vì những sự thua kém khác... Khuynh hướng ta thán nà y thường khiến ta đánh mất đi rất nhiều niềm vui sống, bởi ta luôn bận tâm suy nghĩ về những thua kém của mình và do đó thường chìm ngập trong tâm trạng bất toại nguyện. Điều nà y sẽ ngăn cản không cho ta cảm nhận được niềm vui hay những giá trị sống đang thực sự hiện hữu quanh ta.
Ngược lại, sự chấp nhận hoà n toà n những gì được số phận trao cho cũng không phải là một khuynh hướng tốt. Vì điều nà y thường đẩy ta và o sự an phận, thiếu đi những nỗ lực vươn lên hoà n thiện chÃnh mình.
Chúng ta cần phải biết trân quý những gì mình có được, cho dù đó là sức khỏe tốt, sự khôn ngoan hay một thân thể không khuyết tật... Rất nhiều người khác không có được những điều đó. Tuy nhiên, ta cũng cần biết rằng, mỗi chúng ta đều sẵn có tiềm năng vươn lên hoà n thiện chÃnh mình, là m thay đổi cuộc sống theo hướng tốt đẹp hơn, không chỉ cho riêng bản thân ta mà còn cho tất cả những người khác quanh ta. Khuynh hướng thụ động và an phận sẽ luôn là m cho cuộc sống của ta trở nên nghèo nà n đơn điệu và khiến ta mất đi động lực vươn lên trong cuộc sống.
