Herbert Feis (1893-1972) was an American author and former Economic Advisor for International Affairs to the Department of State in the Hoover and Roosevelt administrations. He was the author of some 13 books and won the Pulitzer Prize for History for his work, Between War and Peace: The Potsdam Conference (1960). The book was about the Potsdam Conference and the origins of the Cold War. The Herbert Feis Prize is awarded annually by the American Historical Association, the pre-eminent professional society of historians, to recognize the recent work of public historians or independent scholars. His works include: The Settlement of Wage Disputes (1921), The Road to Pearl Harbor (1950), The China Tangle (1953), Japan Subdued (1961), Europe the World's Banker, 1870- 1914 (1930), The Atomic Bomb and the End of World War II (1966), The Spanish Story: Franco and the Nations at War (1966), Churchill, Roosevelt, Stalin: The War They Waged and the Peace They Sought (1967) and From Trust to Terror: The Onset of the Cold War, 1945-1950 (1970).
