In many countries aquaculture is a major thrust area which plays a vital role in improving community progress, food security, poverty mitigation, employment and other economic activities. Worldwide production of farmed aquatic animals and plants has to be reached to several billions according to the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO). Grouper, in many Asian countries is also known as lapu-lapu is one among the most commercially important marine food fish. They are one of the most expensive fish species and are valued for the excellent texture and flavor of its flesh, as well as its great potential in aquaculture.This study evaluates the taxonomical position, food and feeding, length and weight, parasite association and production, and economics of wild grouper, Epinephelus malabaricus from Mandapam (Palk Bay) and Gulf of Mannar coastal waters Southeast coast of India.
