Hsing I Chuan is often described as one of the Three Internal Styles of Chinese kung fu, alongside Tai Chi and Ba Gua. Its essence lies in the fusion of five elemental fists (Metal, Water, Wood, Fire, Earth) and twelve animal forms, each reflecting a different type of combat strategy and energy expression.
Today, Hsing I Chuan is practiced worldwide, both as a traditional martial art and as a form of moving meditation. While it may no longer be used primarily for combat, its principles remain relevant for self-defense and personal development.
About The Author: Tim Tackett's martial arts journey began in the 1960s when he served as a member of the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Taiwan. While stationed there, Tackett immersed himself in Chinese culture and sought to deepen his understanding of traditional martial arts. Among the styles he encountered was Hsing I Chuan, an ancient internal martial art renowned for its direct, powerful movements and focus on the integration of mind, body, and spirit.
