What is Wabi-sabi?

Wabi-sabi is the Japanese way of seeing beauty in imperfection, impermanence, and incompleteness. It is not a single word but the union of two ancient terms: wabi (侘び) and sabi (寂び).

Wabi once meant loneliness, disappointment, and lack. Over time it came to suggest a quiet contentment found in simplicity, modesty, and restraint. It is the spirit that accepts life as it is and finds richness in what appears poor or incomplete.
