Embark on an inspiring journey of self-discovery and transformation, as this poignant memoir takes you from pain to triumph through a unique holistic approach. Despite a turbulent past filled with family dysfunction of physical and emotional abuse, the author's experience ultimately propels her toward a fulfilling ministry as a pastoral counselor and marriage and family therapist.
Descend into a narrative of resilience and healing that will uplift and empower you on your own path to triumph.
Steel Wrapped in Velvet is a personal narrative of the authors journey from a world of family dysfunction to a fulfilling ministry of healing and restoration. Glean through the pages of this intriguing narrative where the author journeys through the loss of dreams, grief and cycles of addiction; struggling through the effects of sexual abuse and family dysfunction.
Through-out her journey, the author re-examines the early chapters of her life, searching for meaning and purpose. This quest leads her on a path of continuing education in pastoral counseling and marriage and family therapy, giving her the tools and inspiration to pursue a career in pastoral counseling and marriage and family therapy.
The author provides a glance into the world of both disciplines. The author calls these disciplines the dynamic duo It was the integration of both of these disciplines that provided the author with not only the tools for her inner healing, but also to bring healing to others suffering from family dysfunction and sexual trauma. For those who are in ministry or health profession, the author spotlights the effectiveness of an integrated approach to healing; encompassing the mind, body, relationships, spirituality, thoughts and emotions. When you embark on this journey you will see how:
- Utilizing a holistic approach considers the client/congregates mental, emotional, spiritual and psychology needs, providing the tools that will prompt healing from the trauma and abuse associated with family dysfunction.
- As a pastoral counselor, you do not have to forfeit your spirituality. As a marriage and family therapist it is advantageous to use the clients spirituality as a resource to prompt mental wellness.
- Integrating pastoral counseling and marriage and family therapy provides the therapist/counselor the tools to heal the whole person.
- Family is an essential part of the therapeutic process, trauma does not only affect the individual but the family as well.
The author finishes with a testament of truth how the healing of the family dynamic is within one's reach. The author also makes an appeal to those that service individuals of a broken spirit and struggling with mental health issues stemming from family dysfunction; to consider an integrated approach to healing.
