This paper presents the results of an anthropological investigation of a group of friends and soccer fans between 35 and 60 years of age who established the Veterans Soccer League in the city of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, in the late eighties of the twentieth century. Since then, the league organizes games and tournaments for men over 35 years of age to continue practicing this sport competitively, even when their physical capacities are no longer optimal. The study of soccer at the local level allows us to understand processes of formation of new spaces of social interaction, a consequence of globalization where a soccer culture originates, managing individual, group and national identities sustained by the creation and maintenance of social networks that serve as an adaptive strategy in the face of the changes of the last 50 years in the local environment, caused by tourism and migration.
