Many couples struggle to sustain their marriages in the modern era, despite having more autonomy in partner selection than past generations. Historically, arranged marriages-often without consent-were blamed for marital dissatisfaction. However, even with personal choice, marital stability remains a concern. This study explored the role of premarital counseling in sustaining Christian marriages in Ghana, comparing couples who received counseling with those who did not. Using an exploratory sequential mixed-methods design, the research combined qualitative insights with quantitative data. Findings revealed that premarital counseling significantly enhanced behavioral development and improved communication strategies. However, areas such as financial management and navigating in-law relationships were perceived as less effectively addressed. Logistic regression analysis showed that couples who attended counseling were 30% more likely to experience a sustainable marriage. Although family size had a positive effect, it was statistically insignificant when controlled for counseling. Strengthening premarital counseling may improve marital longevity and resilience.
