Forty-one million root canals are performed in the United States every single year. The American Association of Endodontists calls the procedure safe, effective, and the best option for saving a damaged tooth. A root canal tooth is a dead tooth. When the pulp is removed, the tooth loses its blood supply, its lymphatic connections, its immune system access, and its capacity to respond to future infection.
