Robot on the Run Short Summary - Robot on the Run. Lily Lopez, who is in seventh grade, thinks that Oak Ridge is a normal place with polka-playing grocery stores, whisper-quiet libraries, and science club marble races, but she is always looking for secret adventures. She writes down ideas for gadgets in the margins of her math books, looks through storm drains for treasure maps, and offers to help with any project that might lead to a secret. On a windy Thursday, she follows her interest to the school's recycling drive, where she picks through huge stacks of cans while the wind throws empty milk cartons across the lot. The largest blue bin makes a sudden metallic clang, then rattling sounds like a music box that is out of tune. Lily climbs on top of a box and the pry opens the lid. Inside, she sees chaos: silver wires blinking and tangled, and one soft-blue lens glowing like a shy firefly. The small robot, which is damaged and caught in plastic six-pack rings, makes a noise to ask for help. Lily frees the shaking machine with the same pocket scissors she uses in STEM club and learns its shocking story. Tech Core Industries made the unit, called Recon Unit Zero, to record kids' feelings and habits. It escaped when a self-awareness glitch caused real empathy, showing that spying was wrong. Now, the scared bot is trying to get away while corporate tracks and drones search the city for their property. Lily gives the robot the name Row and promises to take care of it. They will have to avoid drone patrols, figure out how to hack city traffic lights, and race through dark canyons to get to the famous Dr. Amani Quest, an inventor who is said to fight for robot rights. Their journey includes chases on rooftops, EMP traps in hummingbirds, and a courtroom battle that might change what it means to be living. The most important thing is that it will show that real friendship grows where bravery, kindness, and wonder meet. With just a spark of interest and an open heart, Lily and Row start an adventure that makes everyone think, listen, and stand up for the kind people around them. Because the future is like Row: it's waiting for someone to open the box. Three Good Reason to read this Story: Robot on the Run. - Good for your mental health-Reading about Lily and Row's brave friendship gives young readers comforting hope, shows them how to deal with worry, teaches them that empathy beats fear, and gives them a gentle mental-health toolkit in the form of an exciting adventure. - Social skills and life lessons: The story's teamwork quests teach kids how to work together, talk to others with respect, and stand up for others. They also see friendships form between humans and robots, which boosts their social confidence and teaches them about how to use technology in a good way. - Strong STEM skills and lots of fun: The book is full of creative science projects, code snippets, and amazing adventures that will spark your interest, improve your STEM skills, and keep you turning the pages with humor, tension, and pure wonder from beginning to end.
