The Seventh Key Short Summar The Seventh Key Jack had never traveled through time, but history felt more real to him than it did to most people his age. While other teens spent their nights watching videos or worrying about current trends, Jack spent his evenings reading about lost cities, ancient civilizations, and the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. His friends could remember song lyrics and sports scores, but Jack remembered dates, old maps, and stories from thousands of years ago. His favorite mystery was the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. People said they were full of trees, vines, and waterfalls, all built like a beautiful staircase paradise in the middle of the hot desert. But many historians believed the gardens never existed-that they were only a legend, a nice story told again and again. Jack refused to believe that. If the gardens had been even once, then the world would be a lot more magical than people thought. It meant humans had created something so beautiful that it became part of history and imagination forever. Jack needed that to be true. He lived in a small town where nothing exciting ever happened. The oldest thing there was a broken fountain in the park. But Jack's bedroom was a different world. Maps covered the walls. Old river routes were drawn in blue marker. Towers of secondhand books crowded the floor. A corkboard held papers connected by red string-Babylon, Mesopotamia, lost records, and clues that only Jack cared about. His mind lived in places far away, in lands his feet had never touched. Jack grew up listening to his grandfather's stories about brave explorers-some real, some legendary, and some who vanished while chasing rumors. Most people thought those stories were warnings. Jack thought they were invitations to explore deeper and dream bigger. When he learned that the gardens might have actually been in Nineveh, or that they could have been an ancient engineering marvel, a spark lit inside him. What if the gardens didn't just hang? What if they floated? The idea sounded impossible, yet it stayed in his mind. By sixteen, Jack just didn't want to see the world's wonders-he wanted to prove at least one of them was real.
That was before he found the map in the attic.
