Rabbi Matzah: The Hanukkah Book is a laugh-out-loud, heart-filled time-travel adventure that brings the story of Hanukkah to life for kids, families, classrooms, and anyone who's ever asked, Wait... what is Hanukkah actually about?
When siblings Mike and Maya try to set up their menorah, things get a little chaotic - wobbly candles, lots of arguments, and one mysterious puff of latke-scented smoke. Enter Rabbi Matzah: miracle consultant, part-time snack enthusiast, and full-time time traveler.
With a swirl of magic (and probably some powdered sugar), Rabbi Matzah sends the kids back in time to meet Judah Maccabee, see the ruined Temple for themselves, and experience the miracle firsthand. But history isn't just about facts - it's messy, funny, and sometimes involves talking about goats, jelly donuts, or a really loud pair of shoes.
Along the way, Mike and Maya have to figure out what the light means, why the menorah matters, and how to bring the story back home.
Perfect for ages 6-10, this picture book blends Jewish tradition with modern humor, gorgeous painterly illustrations, and a fast-paced story filled with heart. It's great for Hanukkah read-alouds, classrooms, interfaith families, and anyone looking to explain the holiday in a way that actually makes sense (even to a kid hopped up on gelt).
Includes Hanukkah recipes, songs, a miracle tracker, and bonus coloring pages. Part of the Rabbi Matzah series by author-illustrator Suzanne Pell.
They came for the latkes. They stayed for the miracle. And no one exploded - which, according to Rabbi Matzah, makes it a holiday success.
