Intelligence Measurement is a foundational text in the field of psychometrics and cognitive assessment. This comprehensive study delves into the methods and theories behind assessing human intellect, providing a rigorous scientific framework for understanding mental capacity. At the heart of the work is the development and application of performance-based testing, most notably the Kohs Block Design Test, which became a staple in clinical and educational psychology for measuring non-verbal intelligence and cognitive function.
Dr. S.C. Kohs explores the statistical validity of various testing instruments, the correlation between mental age and chronological age, and the practical implications of intelligence testing in schools and social institutions. By focusing on objective measurement and standardized procedures, the book contributes significantly to the early 20th-century movement to quantify psychological traits. It remains a vital resource for historians of psychology and professionals interested in the evolution of cognitive testing, offering profound insights into the origins of modern mental measurement and its role in evaluating individual differences. The work stands as a testament to the systematic effort to apply scientific rigor to the complexities of the human mind.
