Il libro nasce da un'idea semplice: le STEM diventano davvero comprensibili quando gli studenti costruiscono, sperimentano, misurano, osservano e spiegano. Non basta parlare di galleggiamento, pressione, stabilità , luce, filtrazione o energia: bisogna farli vivere attraverso problemi reali, sfide pratiche e prototipi da testare.
In questo volume la classe non esegue esercizi astratti, ma entra in una missione. Deve costruire un lander per proteggere un carico fragile, progettare un ponte dopo un crollo, filtrare acqua torbida su un'isola, deviare un flusso d'acqua dopo il cedimento di una diga, costruire una zattera, usare specchi per orientare la luce, realizzare una carrucola, una catapulta, un sifone, un diavoletto di Cartesio e molti altri dispositivi con materiali semplici.
Ogni attività è pensata per essere letta dal docente prima della lezione e applicata in classe senza dover progettare tutto da zero. La struttura è sempre chiara e ricorrente: scenario di emergenza, obiettivo della missione, materiali, sfida operativa, misura STEM, concetti in gioco, variante rapida, adattamento inclusivo e debriefing scientifico finale.
Il cuore del libro è il Box Operativo - Da leggere a casa, da applicare in classe, che guida il docente passo dopo passo: che cosa preparare, come lanciare la missione, quali materiali usare, che cosa far costruire agli studenti, quali dati raccogliere e come trasformare l'attività pratica in apprendimento scientifico.
Il volume propone 20 missioni STEM pronte all'uso, organizzate in quattro grandi ambienti narrativi: spazio e ambienti estremi, natura selvaggia, città ed emergenze, mare e navigazione. Ogni missione permette di lavorare su concetti scientifici e matematici attraverso attività cooperative, misurabili e facilmente adattabili.
Il libro è pensato per docenti della scuola primaria e secondaria che cercano attività STEM pratiche, inclusive e sostenibili. Non è un eserciziario e non è un manuale teorico: è una guida di regia didattica. Offre idee concrete per settimane STEM, laboratori, attività di recupero, potenziamento, open day, fine anno, lezioni interdisciplinari e classi da riattivare con il fare.
