Hybrid energy systems (HESs) generate electricity from multiple energy sources that complement each other. Recently, due to the reduction in costs of photovoltaic (PV) modules and wind turbines, these types of systems have become economically competitive. A particularly interesting feature of small- and medium-scale hybrid energy systems is their potential to supply electricity to remote un-electrified villages and rural areas in developing countries. In 2018, the International Energy Agency (IEA) estimated that 992 million people did not have access to electricity and projected that by the year 2030, around 674 million would rem-ain without access.
