A true story about the AI gold rush, the step everyone skips, and what actually separates a good idea from a real business.
After nine years as a compliance manager for a real estate association, I'd heard every complaint agents and brokers had, hundreds of times over - including the one that started with if only something like this existed. So after losing my job, I built it: a full real estate compliance platform, complete with due-date transparency, buy-now-pay-later payment options, and a community page for webinars and networking. I ran social media marketing. I put real time and real money into it.
Not one person signed up. Not one.
This book is what I wish someone had handed me before I started building - not a case against AI tools, which are genuinely useful and which I still use every day, but an honest account of what the tools can't do for you: tell you whether anyone actually wants what you're building.
Inside, you'll find:
- How the AI gold rush sells you - the pattern behind every I built this in a weekend video, and what it leaves out
- Why a real problem isn't the same as a real business - the questions I never asked before I started building
- The signs you're building an ecosystem nobody asked for - before you've spent the time and money to find out the hard way
- What I'd actually do differently - a practical, five-step order of operations for testing an idea before you build it
- When it's actually time to quit your day job - a real checklist, not a feeling
Each chapter closes with reflection questions and space to work through your own answers - this isn't just a read, it's a way to pressure-test your own idea before you make the same expensive mistake I did.
This book is general educational information and a personal account - not business, financial, or legal advice.
