WHEN THE FUN ENDS AND A BIG FEELING RUSHES IN
If your child struggles when a favourite activity ends, this children's book about leaving the park offers a gentle, predictable way to prepare for the transition. Ollie Otter loves climbing, swinging and sliding, but when the timer finishes, disappointment rushes through his body.
Children see how a supportive adult can:
- give a visual countdown
- name and validate disappointment
- use a clear first-then sequence
- offer one final controlled choice
- practise a slow breath
Unlike a busy transition story, Ollie's experience stays with one park departure and repeats each step clearly, limiting visual switching. Nicola Ahern created it from her experience as a neurodivergent parent raising neurodivergent children, alongside her child psychology background and research.
The story does not promise every departure will become easy. It shows how visual routines and calm choices can make change feel more understandable. Choose it to help your child feel prepared, respected and capable when something enjoyable must end.
