The Barrys first appear in Ireland when Robert de Barri arrived at Bannow Bay in 1169. By the Middle Ages, they had become lords of Cork, building castles and estates and forming branches such as Barry Mór, Barry Óg, and Barry Roe. Unlike many Norman families, they embraced Irish life, marrying into Gaelic families and leaving their name across the land in Barrymore, Kilbarry, Rathbarry, and Buttevant.
When famine, persecution, and upheaval threatened their future, the Barrys crossed the Atlantic, determined to build new lives while preserving their heritage. Thousands set sail from Cork, carrying with them the courage and resolve that had guided their family for generations.
In America, the Barrys achieved remarkable success. John Barry became the Father of the American Navy, the Barrymores shaped generations of stage and screen, and countless others built communities, businesses, and public life with vision and determination. From Boston to New York, they transformed centuries of courage and perseverance into modern achievement.
