Drawing on more than 30 years of real-world experience across operational, strategic, and senior leadership roles, Mike Mair offers a refreshingly honest, practical guide to what separates exceptional L&D leaders from those constantly battling for budget, relevance, or impact. This is not theory for theory's sake, it's lived expertise, hard-earned lessons, and stories that mirror the challenges you face every day.
Inside, you'll discover clear, actionable guidance on building business acumen, elevating stakeholder relationships, aligning learning with organisational goals, and demonstrating measurable value. You're prompted throughout to pause, reflect, and self-assess, transforming each chapter into a personal audit that helps you identify strengths, uncover blind spots, and shape your own development plan.
If you've ever felt sidelined, treated as an order taker, questioned on impact, or frustrated by a lack of engagement from the business, this book speaks directly to those pain points and offers solutions you can apply immediately. Packed with practical tools, models, mind maps, self-care strategies, and powerful questions to ask stakeholders, The Truly Strategic L&D Leader equips you not only to think differently, but to lead differently.
Read this book if you're ready to move beyond delivering training and start driving transformational, measurable change - developing people, boosting performance, and securing L&D's rightful place at the heart of organisational success.
